These memories are dedicated to my mother, Anna Kathrine Aasteo Jacobsen, who nurtured me through my formative years. Although times were tough, she always seemed to find some food for the table, patched and kept my clothes clean, and provided encouragement when it was sorely needed.
In addition, I wish to dedicate these memories to my wife, Shirley Lesley Jacobsen, who for over fifty years was my constant companion and who dedicated her life to my moral, physical, and spiritual well-being. Shirley had but one career and that was providing a home and looking out for me and our five children. When I gaze upon her face, I say to myself: You sure were lucky to have found such a wonderful partner for life. Words cannot express my gratitude.
